Portable power stations in the 2000 watt hour range are the real sweet spot when it comes to portability, power and price. The Bluetti EB200P is no exception. But with so many 2000Wh models on the market, is the EB200P the right one for you? Give me 5 minutes of your time and I’ll tell you who should buy the EB200P, who shouldn’t, and whether it’s features are worth your cash. Want to buy with confidence? No worries. We also compare the Bluetti EB200P, AC200P and AC200MAX so you can. Let’s get into it.

Bluetti EB200P review: Key takeaways

Wins – is the Bluetti EB200P worth your hard earned cash?

Will you get your money’s worth and what happens if something goes wrong. Here is where the Bluetti portable power stations shines:

  • Bluetti is a big name, global battery brand. You get a 2 year warranty with your battery. And for a product that is supposed to last 10 years, you want to be sure the company will still be around if anything does go wrong.
  • The EB200P is worth the tag price of just over AUD$2000 in our view. Primarily because of it’s LifeP04 battery cells. These give the EB200P 3500+ charge cycles and you’ll still have 1600 watts of storage in the battery after that.
  • The variety in charge ports and 30Amp DC port make it particularly suited to RVs and caravans. But large families will need a battery with a bit more energy storage.

Losses – what to know before you buy

If these features are important to you, give the EB200P a miss:

  • UPS or Uninterrupted Power Supply is absent. UPS always charges its battery from the main power source. It then gives a steady flow of electricity to devices connected to it. There’s no UPS in the EB200P or any of the batteries featured here.
  • Want Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity. Bad luck. It’s missing in the EB200P. All you have to monitor and manage the battery performance is the digital touch screen.
  • Expandability. Many of the leading batteries in the market sell additional battery cells. They are designed to plug into your power station and add power capacity. Scale up when you can afford it. If this sounds like you, don’t get the EB200P. You can’t add battery cells to it.
  • True portability. All three Bluetti batteries we looked at weigh a back-breaking 30kg. But they don’t come with wheels like the Ecoflow Delta Solar Generator does. Is that true portability?

Where is the Bluetti Solar Generator made?

Bluetti portable power stations are made in Shenzhen, China.

Who owns Bluetti?

PowerOak is the parent company and owns the Bluetti brand.

Otherwise know as ‘Shenzhen PowerOak Technology’, PowerOak was started in 2013. It makes advanced battery storage systems – namely the Bluetti. PowerOak is known for their R&D combining solar energy with battery storage and have other cool tech products. They design, make, sell, and support energy storage systems for homes and businesses.

They are a big and established name in the energy storage world.

Is Bluetti a good brand?

Yes, Bluetti is one of the top global brands making portable power stations. It’s the flagship brand of the PowerOak parent company.

The parent company PowerOak has large manufacturing facilities with HQ located in the Silicon Valley of China – Shenzhen. It’s in their manufacturing facilities that the Bluetti batteries are manufactured, assembled, finished and tested.

Bluetti batteries are certified to international electrical standards.

PowerOak sells Bluetti products in over 100 countries and has offices in places like Japan, the USA, Germany, Australia, and Nigeria. The company started has over 400 engineers. Many of these engineers are founders or partners.

Bluetti retails their power stations all over the globe

PowerOak has earned over 310 patents and invests more than $8 million in research every year. They work on things like inverters, battery management, solar and wind energy controls, and other tech systems. With a big R&D bent, their products are leading edge.

The main market of PowerOak is the US, which makes up 32% of their revenue. Followed by Western Europe and Eastern Asia.

Bluetti power station warranty

Another indicator of a good brand is whether the parent company stands behind its manufacturing with a strong warranty and after sales service. So how does Bluetti fare?

Bluetti power stations under 1000W come with a 1-year warranty, while those ranging from 1000W to 2000W have a 2-year warranty. In some cases (but not with the EB200P) have the option to extend the 2 year warranty for a further 2 years if you register the product with Bluetti.

The larger Bluetti home battery backup power stations have an extended 5-year warranty.

For minor issues, PowerOak provides repair guidelines and sends replacement parts. Users are supposed to follow these guidelines to fix or replace parts in their Bluetti, on their own.

If a product fails within its warranty period and can’t be fixed, the company offers a replacement with a new product.

After sales service

You’ll likely be buying your Bluetti EB200P online. And it’s not a small amount a money you’re forking out to get one. So what if something is wrong with your Bluetti power station when it arrives?

Bluetti support services are primarily via email. They also have a Facebook group and a community board. We’ve contacted their email address before and always received a swift response.

There is an Australian Service Centre in Chatswood, Sydney. And a US Service Centre in Nevada. While you’ll likely be buying online, if you’re in these 2 countries a local presence provides a little more assurance in the product.

What is the Bluetti EB200P Portable Power Station?

The EB200P is a portable power station, otherwise know as a ‘solar battery’ or ‘solar generator’.

A portable power station is designed to give you power where the grid can’t. It’s a like a giant powerbank, but with more ‘smart controls’.

The smart controls are in the Battery Management System (BMS) inside the battery pack. It’s the BMS that turns the battery into a mini power station. A good BMS is important in a quality portable power station.

To get the portable power station you need to purchase the EB200P battery system as well as some solar panels to charge it. Bluetti sells the battery with the Bluetti PV200 solar panels. These are foldable, which makes them portable alongside the battery.

Features

What features should you care about in a portable power station? At a minimum, the big three are:]

  1. How much energy it can store
  2. How much power it can output, and
  3. How many times you can charge it.

These three things influence whether you’re getting value for money, when it comes to your Bluetti power station. Lets look at them in the EB200P.

Power Capacity

The EB200P can store 2048Wh of power capacity. You’ll actually get about 90% of this delivered after efficiency losses as the battery runs. With this comes 4800 watts of surge power. This is the maximum amount of power it can put out for a very short time.

By the way, if you’d like to know what each of these terms means, check out our portable power station buyers guide.

2048Wh with solar panels connected is about enough delivered energy each day to run basic power needs in a small cabin, RV or Tiny Home for 2 people, for weekends away.

It’s not enough to run a fully kitted RV, cabin or Tiny Home long term.

Maximum Output

You get 2200 watts of maximum in this model (it overloads when output hits a constant 2750W). Maximum output is the most energy it can send out at the one time, over an indefinite period.

Things like toasters, heaters, air conditions, air fryers, fridges and freezers, kettles and driers need a higher maximum output. Some of these (with motors, heater elements or compressors) also need more surge power. With the EB200P, you could run one or two of these high demand appliances at the same time, but not multiple of them.

Anything over 2200 watts will trigger the surge capacity function (up to 4800 watts), which only stays on for matter of seconds. But sometimes that’s all you need.

Life cycle

3500 charge cycles will deplete the EB200P to 80% of its initial charge. Thats the same as charging the battery once a day for 10 years. After 80% the battery should still be able to store 1638Wh. You’ll still be able to run the battery after 10 years. It just won’t hold as much charge as it once did.

This is all possible because of the LifeP04 battery cells used in the Bluetti EB200P. LifeP04 is a type of lithium battery that’s inherently safer and has a longer lifespan than other lithium batteries.

Read more about the advantages of this type of battery here ‘LifeP04 Solar Generator – is it worth the hype’.

The Lifep04 battery excels in 4 areas

Other nice features

Other things we like about the Bluetti include the variety of outlet ports, quiet operation, and multiple ways to charge it, including with other batteries (like lead acid) and generator types.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The EB200P hits the sweet spot for price and power. 2048Wh is a lot of handy backup power. And for a bit over AUD$2000 it is a reasonable deal in our view.
  • LifeP04 battery chemistry. It’s this that gives the EB200P 3500+ charge cycles. More cycles means better cost efficiency over the long term. The more you use the EB200P, the cheaper its energy.
  • Tonnes of outlets / ports. You can charge 15 devices on the Bluetti EB200P. And the charge pads on top are particularly handy.
  • 30Amp DC port is a great addition for caravans and RVs.

Cons

  • The EB200P is not expandable. You can’t add more power capacity. Other Bluetti models and many of the Ecoflow portable power stations are. If you buy the EB200P (or the AC200P for that matter), and it’s not big enough you’d have to buy another power station. And that’s not the best set up money wise or performance wise for reasons we explain below. But don’t panic. You’ll find enough info in this article so that doesn’t happen.
  • It’s not that fast to charge. You also need a charger (a big brick accessory). The EB200P only takes 400 watts of AC input. Or 1400 watts of total power input. To charge from zero to full using a wall outlet takes 5 to 6 hours. The quickest it will charge with dual charging is 3.5 hours. That’s not what you call fast charging when compared with the Ecoflow portable power stations.
  • You have to power the EB200P on to charge it, which is counterintuitive. Think about it. What powerbank requires you to turn your device on to charge it? Other portable power station brands like the Ecoflow just have to be plugged in.
  • The cable to charge from a wall outlet has an annoyingly large ‘brick’ adapter attached to it.

Is the EB200P the right model for you?

There are more than 6 Bluetti portable power stations on the market. 3 of them are 2000Wh models. And these 3 models are the same in many features and functions. It’s easy to be confused about which model to chose. How do you know which one is right for you?

Well we compared the Bluetti EB200P vs AC200P and AC200MAX.

Bluetti EB200P vs AC200P

Bluetti EB200P vs AC200MAX
The EB200P is more expensive than the AC200P. But is it worth the extra?

So, what is the difference between Bluetti AC200P and EB200P?

To start, the EB200P is $400 more expensive than the AC200P. Here’s what you get extra, for the additional $400 you’ll shell out to buy it:

  • Slightly large power capacity (by 48Wh).
  • 200 watts more in the inverter so more instantaneous power output.
  • A 30Amp RV DC outlet (instead of 25Amp on the AC200P).
  • Faster solar charging with 900 watts of solar input (instead of 700 watts).
  • More solar panel charging options. The EB200P has a 10 volt minimum input voltage for solar. So you can charge it off a single 12 volt solar panel. Any 3rd party solar panel in fact. The AC200P has a minimum input voltage of 35 volts, so needs 3 x 12 volt solar panels chained in series to charge it.
  • The EB200P includes Eco mode auto AC shut off if there is only a small load on the battery. Saves the battery wasting power (parasitic load).

Another little but unnecessary niggle with the AC200P is that the touch screen is always on, which wastes power. The EB200P display times out to save power.

Finally, there is a lot of confusion online about whether the AC200P is an expandable power station. The Bluetti website seems to indicated that you can add Bluetti batteries (the B230 and B300) to it all the way up to 8000+Wh!

But in fact, it’s not.

There is no expandable battery port on AC200P. There are no instructions in the manual about connecting extra batteries.

We’re not sure why, but the EB200P does not accommodate extra batteries either. You can’t scale it up. In our view, this is one of the major drawbacks for both of these models. And it’s why, if you have the extra cash, you’d seriously think about upgrading to the AC200MAX.

Bluetti EB200P vs AC200MAX

Bluetti EB200P vs AC200P
The AC200MAX is an upgrade on the AC200P and EB200P

The AC200MAX is step up on the EB200P and the AC200P in a few critical areas. It’s also AUD$300 more than the Bluetti EB200P. Here are the main differences:

  • AC200MAX supports expansion batteries. In fact, it’s expandable to 8100Wh using the Bluetti B300 batteries. If you need extra power later, get the AC200MAX. The B300 expansion battery retails for $2599, which is $100 cheaper than the AC200MAX itself. BUT, the B300 battery gives you 3072Wh of power. 1024Whr more than buying another AC200MAX. This is where the extra $300 for the AC200MAX is worth it. If you need more power later.
  • The AC200MAX has silent charging but charges slower than the EB200P.
  • Bluetooth connectivity and App controls come with the AC200MAX. The EB200P and AC200P have digital touch screen controls only.
  • Better efficiency and less idle power use than the EB200P means you lose less power as you run the AC200MAX.
  • EB200P is slightly heavier.

What’s missing from the Bluetti EB200P?

UPS has been overlooked in all of these models. It should be included in the EB200P and AC200MAx in our view, for the price tag. So should scalability. But you wont find either of these with the EB200P. If you want UPS functionality in the same size and quality battery, check out the Ecoflow Delta 2 (USA) or Ecoflow Delta (Australia).

There’s no App with the EB200P. This is outdated in our view. Brands like Ecoflow have App capabilities in smaller models. The App comes in super handy if the battery is outside, and you’re inside.

We plug our Tiny House mains plug into a cheaper, smaller Ecoflow portable power station in a power outage. Instead of having to run outside where the mains plug is to check vital stats, we can do it right from the Ecoflow app on our phone.

You can’t do with with the Bluetti AC200P or the EB200P.

Our Ecoflow power stations autocharge when you plug in the AC input cable. As long as your powerpoint is on. With this Bluetti, there is no autocharge function. It seems like a little thing, until you realise after a day of having your battery plugged in to a wall socket that it’s not actually charged and you have no power. Just because you forgot to ‘power on’ your Bluetti that morning, to charge it.

Who should buy the EB200P Portable Power Station?

Individuals / Couples / small families

Bluetti EB200P is a great choice for individuals couples and small families.

We’re talking for home emergency backup power, and all manner of outdoor activities. Like camping, RVs, off roading, boon docking to name a few.

Bluetti EB200P
A great all round portable power station for small RVs, and caravans

It also has enough grunt to run essential home appliances in a blackout. Like iPhones, computers, a toaster, kettle, TV, WiFi, and a small induction cooker or Air fryer.

It won’t run these all at once. But you’d certainly be happy to have it in 4 or 5 hour power outage. Especially in the evening when we’re all trying to cook and watch the evening news.

You won’t run your electric hot water system with the EB200P unfortunately.

For one, because it doesn’t connect up to your home power board (hot water systems are hard wired so can’t be plugged in to a portable power station without going through the power board).

And secondly, because it doesn’t give off enough power. So no showers in that blackout.

You’d need something with more power capacity and maximum output to run electric hot water in a power outage. Bigger than the AC200MAX even.

We’d also go for something bigger for extended or repeated blackouts, if that’s what you are faced with.

If you’re looking for a portable power station for long term emergency backup at home, go for something like the Bluetti EB500Pro, which has 3000W of max output and 5100Wh of storage.

Or for even bigger power needs, the Ecoflow Delta Pro. This thing scales up to 25,000Wh of storage and 7200 watts of max output.

Home DIYers / home workshop

The Bluetti EB200P has enough power to charge most DIY tools and equipment. Drills, power saws, nail guns, you name it. So find a place for it in your shed, and off you go with your DIY projects or artisan crafts.

We wouldn’t recommend the EB200P for trades persons, homesteaders or farmers however. Because its damn heavy and it’s not truly portable.

Who Shouldn’t buy it?

Digital nomads

It’s probably overkill too in the energy it provides. If you just need to run a laptop, camera equipment, lights, iPhone and drone, get something in the 1000Wh range. We recommend the Ecoflow River 2 Pro, which has 800Wh and weighs less than 8kg.

If you did need 2000Wh of power, all of these batteries are too heavy to cart everywhere without wheels. Bluetti do sell as trolley separately.

Large families

There’s not enough power in this model to run a family size RV, or camper van.

Nor is it big enough to provide emergency backup power for more than an hour or two.

If you’re taking your whole family camping, you’ll also want a power station with more storage capacity and maximum output. Or one that connects to extra batteries.

The Bluetti AC200MAX expands up to 8000Wh, and at that size can meet your camping power needs comfortably..

If you want to go big or go home with emergency backup that’s also portable, the Ecoflow Delta Pro will expand all the way up to 25,000Wh (7200 max output) with 2 spare batteries and a backup solar gas hybrid generator. It even comes with wheels on it.

Expect to pay handsomely for that much portable power though.

Critical loads

There is no UPS in any of these Bluetti portable power stations – EB200P, AC200P or AC200MAX.

UPS – or uninterrupted power supply – is a function that keeps the battery in the power station in a constant state of charge. When the power goes out, the battery automatically and instantaneously switches on, to deliver the power you need.

Without UPS, these 2000Wh model Bluetti power stations are not suitable as backup in emergencies for critical load.

What’s critical load, you ask? Here are some examples:

  • Life support or other medical devices. Like CPAP or oxygen machines.
  • Sensitive electronics – If your home office needs backup power or you are a serious online gamer, look for a portable power station that has UPS instead. It will give you time during blackouts to properly power down your hard drive, computer or other electronics.
  • Fish tanks! If you’re serious about your fish, UPS helps keeps them alive in a power outage. Don’t be without it.

In A Nutshel

In the realm of portable power stations, the 2000Wh range, the Bluetti EB200P stands out for its balance of portability, power, and price. However, with a myriad of similar models available, the decision-making process can be daunting. This review delved into the EB200P, contrasting it with its siblings, the AC200P and AC200MAX. We highlighted its strengths, drawbacks, and its suitability for various users. Bluetti has cemented its reputation in energy storage, but it’s crucial to align your purchase with your specific needs. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of these power stations is key. We hope this article has helped this choice easier for you.
