About the Ecoflow Delta

The Delta Solar Generator comes in four models in Australia:

  1. Delta Mini – The smallest, lightest cheapest model at 882Wh of power and weighing just over 10 kg
  2. Delta – bigger at 22kg, with 1612Wh of power but only 500 cycles (NCM battery)
  3. Delta Max – same weight at 22 kg, but 2000Wh of power, 800 cycles (NCM battery)
  4. Delta Pro – weighing in at 45 kg, 3600Wh of power, LifeP04 battery with a whopping 3500 cycles.

In the US, the Ecoflow Delta 2 – released late 2022 – upgrades the base model Delta to LifeP04 batteries, giving it the long lifespan we love. The Ecoflow Delta 2 comes in at 1024Wh of capacity, expandable up to 3000Wh with the Delta Max extra battery. We can’t wait until this unit comes to the Ecoflow site down under.

In this article, we focus on the Delta Pro Solar Generator which at it’s core is a whopper of a LifeP04 Solar Generator. It’s the big LifeP04 battery and built in smarts that help make the Delta Solar Generator worth it’s sticker price in our opinion. Here’s why…

Wins: buy the Delta Solar Generator (Pro) for these reasons

Power Capacity and Expandability: The Delta Pro Solar Generator starts with a 3600Wh capacity, expandable up to 25,000Wh with additional batteries, and Ecoflow Smart Generator. This makes it suitable for heavy-duty use, extended blackouts, and outdoor activities. You can even power your off grid lifestyle with it.

Versatility in Charging and Powering: It can power up to 14 devices simultaneously and offers loads of charging methods, including EV Station Charging, Solar Panel Charging, wall charging, and car charging.

Super Fast charging: The 2023 Ecoflow power station introduces FlowCharge for super fast charging of around 2 hours depending on method. That’s lighting fast compared to other similar batteries on the market. It also features an Infinity Port so you can charge and discharge from the one AC output.

With it’s MultiCharge technology you can also combine AC, solar, and an Ecoflow Smart Generator for industry leading 6500W charging speeds. Faster charging means less downtime for you.

Cost per kilowatt hour: 3500+ charge cycles to 80% charge means you can use it once a day for 10 years and it’ll still be able to store 2880Wh of power after that. Over it’s lifespan, this makes it one of the most cost efficient models in the market. 6500+ cycles will take the battery down to 50% charge but that’s a metric tonne of battery usage! Cost efficiency is mostly due to to the advantages of its LifeP04 battery over other types of lithium battery.

Losses: things to know before you buy.

Price: The price tag of around AUD$6600 (excl. solar panels) means you’ll need to be a heavy user to get best bang for your buck. More cycles = a lower cost of power per kilowatt hour over the life of the battery.

Design: The cheap framing for accompany solar panels makes them clumsy to use. You can substitute with other panel brands however.

Delta Solar Generator – the features and what they mean

Here’s a run down of the top features to look for in a portable power station, to get a quality power solution with excellent bang for your buck.

  1. Safety: If safety is your biggest concern, the Delta Pro LifeP04 lithium battery. has you covered This technology is inherently less volatile than other lithium battery technologies. So there’s less risk of the chemicals in the battery causing fire or explosions.
  2. Power Capacity: This is how much juice the battery stores. Power capacity is expressed in watts (W), kilowatts (kW), watt hours (Wh) or kilowatt hours (kWh). It’s the total amount of electricity that a solar generator can store. For users, a higher power capacity means you can power larger devices or multiple small devices for a longer time. Look for modular batteries, where you can add capacity as you need it. The Delta Pro is definitely an Ecoflow whole house generator, scaling up to 25,000Wh, which is more power than the average Australian house uses a day.
  3. Cycle Life: The number of times you can charge a battery before its charge when full falls below 80%. More cycles means a longer cycle life means the battery will last longer. You get reliable power for a longer time which means better cost efficiency.
  4. Fast Charging Capability: Some solar generators, like the Ecoflow Delta Pro, are designed to charge quickly. The generator can be fully charged and ready to provide power in less time, which can be particularly useful in emergency situations or when you can’t afford downtime for your tools and devices.
  5. Multiple Charging Options: Some solar generators can be charged in multiple ways, such as through an AC outlet, a car charger, and of course with solar panels. The more charging flexibility you have, the less chance you’ll run into a situation where you need to charge the battery but can’t.
  6. Multiple Output Ports: Having multiple output ports allows users to power multiple types of devices at the same time. This can include a mix of AC (home appliances), DC (RVs and caravans), and USB devices, making the generator versatile and adaptable to your needs.
  7. Portability: The Delta Pro is a portable power station. It’s designed to be compact and lightweight enough to carry around. At the same time, it’s also big enough (in power capacity) to run a lot of your home power needs. Portability makes the solar generator ideal for loads of scenarios. From outdoor activities like camping to powering your home in a blackout.
  8. Solar Input Capacity: This is the maximum amount of power that the generator can take in from solar panels at one time. A higher solar input capacity means the generator can be charged more quickly using solar power, which can be a great advantage in remote areas or a blackout.

Now that you know the features that are important for a quality solar generator, lets look specifically at how the Ecoflow Delta Solar Generator shapes up.

Delta Solar Generator features in detail

If you buy a Delta Solar Generator, here’s what you’ll actually be getting:

Faster charging

One of the best features of the Delta Solar Generator is its rapid charging capability.

It can also charge from multiple sources at once. This is what gives it industry-best charging speeds. Here’s how long it takes to charge from 0% to 100%, using different charging methods:

Charging methodCharging time
EV charging station1.7 hours
Wall socket2 hours
Solar panels2.8 hours

You can also top it up from your car battery and charge it with a gas fuelled Ecoflow Smart Generator.

If you can’t afford down time for long charging periods, the Delta Solar Generator (Pro) boasts charging speeds that are up to the task.

Loads of power capacity

The Delta Pro gives you 3600Wh of AC power, which is what you need to run home appliances.

On top of this already high AC output, you get ‘X boost’ capability. This means the power output can actually surge to 4500W to handle more power-hungry devices. It’s great ‘ace up the sleeve’ if you need to start compressors (like your fridge) or heaters using the Delta Pro. These elements need a lot of starting watts to get them running.

The Delta Pro also a modular LifeP04 battery, meaning you can add more power capacity as you can afford it.

2 Delta Pros, 2 extra batteries and 2 Ecoflow Smart Generators will take you all the way up to 25kWh. At that size, it’ll power just about everything in your home at once!

It’s scalable ecosystem makes the Delta Solar Generator a real contender as a whole home backup power solution and it could even take you completely off-grid.

More cost efficient

The Delta’s high efficiency is evident in its power output and charge rates (cycle life), which are market leading. You can charge and discharge it 3500 times and still expect the battery to be at 80% of its original charging capacity.

You can also discharge it to between 90% and 100% – which means you get more power out of each cycle. Other lithium battery types can only be discharged to 80%.

The more you use your Delta Pro, the less you pay per kilowatt hour of power it delivers.

Not only does the Delta Solar Generator deliver large amounts of power, it can charge and discharge at the same time.

This balance of power and efficiency is a key advantage of the Ecoflow Delta solar generator.

Market leading safety

The Ecoflow Delta Pro features an LifeP04 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, known for its long lifespan and stability.

We’ve already talked about the 3500 cycles that allow you to use the battery once a day for 10+ years.

Stability refers to the chemistry in the battery. LifeP04 battery chemistry suffers less from thermal runaway than other lithium battery chemistries. So there’s less risk of battery-related fire and explosion.

Better convenience

Despite its robust power output and high capacity, the Ecoflow Delta manages to maintain a level of portability that makes it convenient for various uses.

Weighing in at 45kg, it’s lighter than many home backup generators in its class. It’s weight makes it easy to transport, so you can use it both at home and for outdoor adventures.

The generator’s design also features a built-in handle and wheels, making it even easier to move around.

More functional and versatile

The Ecoflow Delta is designed to be a versatile power station, capable of meeting most modern day power needs. It has a wide range of ports, including AC, DC, and USB ports, allowing it to power a variety of devices at once. Whether you need to charge your phone, power a refrigerator, or run a power tool, the Ecoflow Delta has you covered.

Its high power output and multi port discharging capability make it highly functional whatever your power needs.

Other pros and cons of the Delta Solar Generator

Pros:

  1. Durability: this is one tough mother of a battery unit. ABS plastic with a fire resistant casing and copper enclosed wiring means you can knock it around with damaging it.
  2. System protections: the onboard Battery Management System regulates electricity voltage, current and battery temperature. So any devices you plug into the Delta Solar Generator are protected.
  3. UPS capability: connect the Delta Solar Generator to the Ecoflow Smart Home Panel and your power board and you have uninterrupted power supply at home. That’s code for seamless backup power when there is an outage. So seamless, you won’t even notice the rest of your street is out.
  4. Remote controls: The Ecoflow app makes running the solar generator over WiFi easy peasy. If you don’t have WiFi connect the remote control via bluetooth to set battery life, control input/output levels and monitor charge levels.
  5. Dual surface solar charging: The Ecoflow Delta Pro can be charged using the matching solar panels that collect and convert sunlight into electricity on both sides (front and back). That’s more solar power and faster charging.

Cons:

  1. Price: High-performance solar generators like the Ecoflow Delta Pro can be quite expensive, which might be a deterrent for some potential users. At around AUD$6600 (solar panels excl.) it is on par with competitor models from Bluetti.
  2. Weight: Despite being portable, the Ecoflow Delta Pro is quite heavy, which might make it less convenient for transport if you’re always on the move.
  3. Solar panel frame: We find the dual surface 220 watt solar panel clumsy to set up and manoeuvre with the sun. It’s all to do with the flimsy frame and nothing to do with the quality of the panel.
